Andreas Slominski
6 May - 3 June 2006
Metro Pictures' current exhibition of a new body of work by Hamburg artist Andreas Slominski includes 10 large polystyrene wall reliefs. The sometimes mural sized blocks of polystyrene are carved into, spray painted with bright Spring colors and affixed with handmade and outsized objects. The surface objects are repeated in varying combinations from piece to piece and include natural and manmade items suggesting automatic or mechanical action. These objects include hinges, pliers, gears, scissors, clocks, skis, boots, candle holders, rivers, roads and trees. The loose system of elements reflect fundamental associations of a simple life that is rural and basic in nature. The works are framed in deep aluminum edged boxes suggestive of window displays or aquarium cases that emphasize the fixed balance of the interior parts.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 6, from 6 – 8pm.
