An Exhibition & Sale of Art by Renowned Alumni & Faculty to Benefit the new John Baldessari Studio Building and Endowed Scholarships in the CalArts School of Art.
Through his generous and innovative teaching and his exceptional art practice, John Baldessari, a Chouinard alumnus and former CalArts faculty member, has influenced thousands of young artists and has earned a prominent place in the history of contemporary art. This spring, more than 80 of the world’s leading artists are joining together with Baldessari to give back to CalArts, where many studied.
Clara Kim, most recently Senior Curator of Visual Arts at the Walker Art Center, has organized the exhibition, providing a rich context for the work of these artists who hold significant places in the history of contemporary art and CalArts.
Proceeds from the benefit and auction will support the new John Baldessari Studio Building at CalArts as well as scholarships in the School of Art. The Baldessari Building is the Institute’s newest educational facility featuring exhibition and instructional space as well as 16 artists’ studios. Reducing student debt is one of the Institute’s highest priorities, and the endowment created from proceeds from the auction and sales will allow more of our students to launch their creative careers without the burden of enormous debt.
All donated works are available for viewing on Artsy.
