CINDY SHERMAN will exhibit her most recent work at Metro Pictures from October 26 through November 23. This will be the gallery's final show at 150 Greene Street in Soho before relocating to 513 West 24th Street in Chelsea.

In this 1996 series of 14 large (approximately 60 x 36") cibachromes, Sherman presents extreme close-ups of faces, masks, and faces behind masks. She uses mannequin heads as well as her own face with highly theatrical make-up and intensely saturated color to create images recalling characters from the realm of science fiction and horror films.

Sherman is currently the subject of two traveling retrospective exhibitions; one in Europe organized by Museum Boymans-Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, that is currently at the Reina Sofia in Madrid; and one in Japan, originating at the Museum of Modern Art, Shiga. The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles will mount a retrospective of Sherman's work in 1997. In 1995 MOMA purchased the artist's entire series of 69 "Untitled Film Stills" preserving this body of work in a single public collection. Sherman was the recipient of a MacArthur Grant in 1995. The artist is based in New York City and has exhibited her work at Metro Pictures since its opening in 1980.

Sherman's much anticipated feature film "Office Killer," the artist's take on B-grade horror movies, will be released in early 1997.
