Antennae Pods Transmissions explores Tony Oursler's fascination with the metaphysical and the technological and the ways in which the media is capable of provoking psychological effects.

One group of sculptures, combining TV antennas with various electronic components, projections, wire screens and plexiglas, pose as receivers for transcendent communication. For Oursler, antennas represent the formal and mechanical embodiments of our desire for information and communication. In another series, large hand-blown glass pods encase plaster heads with projected faces that, while isolated and bound, ruminate or babble.

Tony Oursler's mid-career survey, Introjection, was on view from 1999 to 2001 at the Williams College Museum of Art in Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Des Moines Art Center. His installation The Darkest Color Infinitely Amplified was recently on view at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and The Influence Machine, sponsored by Public Art Fund and Artangel, was installed in Madison Square Park in New York and in Soho Square in London. An on-line project Timestream was just launched by Museum of Modern Art in New York and may be viewed at www.moma.org/timestream. Tony Oursler's work is represented in museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Tate Gallery in London.
