David Maljkovic was born in 1973 in Rijeka, Croatia, and lives and works in Zagreb. His 2020 exhibition With the Collection at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rijeka, was staged on the occasion of Rijeka's selection as the 2020 European Capital of Culture. In 2015 his one-person exhibition A Retrospective by Appointment was held across four separate venues in Zagreb—the Nova Gallery; HDD (The Croatian Designers Association); the artist’s studio; and Cinema Tuskanac, Croatian Film Association. It was later revisited in altered form as Again and Again at the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Ljubljana, in 2016. A major survey exhibition, Sources in the Air, was organized by Van Abbemuseum, Eidhoven, Netherlands, in 2012, traveling to BALTIC Center for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, United Kingdom, and GAMeC, Bergamo, in 2013. He has had additional one- or two-person exhibitions at Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Switzerland; CAC Contemporary Art Center, Vilnius, Lithuania; Kunsthalle Basel (with Latifa Echakhch); SculptureCenter, New York (with Lucy Skaer); Secession, Vienna; Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid; Kunstverein Hamburg; and MoMA PS1, New York. He participated in the 11th Gwangju Biennale, the 56th Venice Biennale, and the 29th São Paolo Biennial.
